General information

What is Opera Web Mail

Opera Software offers a Free Web-based e-mail service called Opera Web Mail. Web-based e-mail stores all messages on a mail server that you can access using your Opera Web browser (or any other browser). Rather than downloading incoming messages from a mail server, you simply use your browser to write, send, and read messages online.

Advantages

One of the big advantages to Web-based e-mail is that you can access your e-mail from any computer that has Internet access. You can, for example, check your e-mail from a public library that provides Internet access, or in an Internet Cafe anywhere in the world.

Disadvantages

Of course, just as there are advantages to Web-based e-mail, there are also certain disadvantages. One of the biggest is that you must connect to the Internet in order to compose a message. Because your messages are not downloaded to your PC, you must be connected in order to read your e-mail. Therefore, should the service be temporarily down, you cannot use it.

Advertising

Virtually all Web-based e-mail services are free. Rather than charging you for an account, these services show advertising banners on each page.

Spam

You will most likely experience that you receive messages from persons or companies offering you some kind of product etc. This is called spam. Generally speaking, spam is unsolicited e-mail. Most often it is a message that is sent out to numerous e-mail addresses for the purpose of advertising a product, service, or Web site.
